Introduction

Hogwarts Academy of Witchcraft and Wizardy is a private institution located within a secret society of the London population. As such the students are held to the utmost secrecy when engaging with the general public. Students are expected to keep the location of the school as well as the nature of their studies under wraps from the non-magical community. It is a fine institution with well educated professors who always have the students best interest at heart.

It is the school's hope that the children who come to study at Hogwarts leave with the best possible education one can have. This student handbook is designed to give students the information they need to make their learning experience better. Things that will be discussed is behavior expectations, student schedules, uniform guidelines, extracurricular activities, and more.

Refer to this handbook if you have any questions about your rights and responsibilities of being a student of Hogwarts Academy of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Student Schedules

The Hogwarts Academy of Witchcraft and Wizardry has a well-rounded curriculum that challenges all students. The academy prides itself on having a strong backbone in its academics department. Having this strong backbone not only aids the students in preparing for real life outside the academy walls, but for their careers as well. Skill development is a major goal of a demanding academic program. All classes emphasize the need to write, speak and listen effectively. Students are challenged to think analytically and creatively and are given the opportunity to solve problems and make decisions. With small class sizes, the students are better prepared to gain the expertise to excel while still getting the one on one attention they need if they have questions.

At this level, the students should expect to have homework nightly to further challenge themselves and emphasize what they have learned in the classroom. The terms will run as follows:
  • Term 1: September 11-December 1, finals the week of December 14-18; two week break over Christmas
  • Term 2: January 4-March 26, finals the week of March 22-26; two week break for Easter;
  • Term 3: April 5-June 11, finals the week of June 7-11.
As a first year student your schedule will include the following coursework:
  • Astronomy
  • Charms
  • Defense Against the Dark Arts
  • Herbology
  • History of Magic
  • Potions
  • Transfiguration
Second year students will take the next level of the above classes and will be adding two of the following elective classes:
  • Ancient Runes
  • Arithmancy
  • Care of Magical Creatures
  • Divination
  • Muggle Studies
For third year students, the continuation of the core classes learned in year one will continue. You are allowed to drop an elective or add additional classes to your schedule if you wish.

In year four, the preparation of the OWLS begin, core lessons continue to advance, and electives can be dropped or added to.

When the fifth year begins, professors and students are working together to continue preparation for the OWLS which will be held at the end of summer term. Advanced core lessons continue, students can change or add to their elective courses.

Sixth and seventh years focus on the development of study as a result of the OWL exam. Students will not receive schedules until the first day of term for their final years. Determination is a result of the passing of the OWL exam. For those who did not pass the OWL, they shall discuss their options with their Head of House.

  • The Council of Ten

  • The Nox Nobius

  • Chess Club
Naturally, chess is a no-brainer. Wizarding chess is the best there is.

Technology and Nox Nobius

Nox Nobius and its surrounding area is all protected and enchanted for the resident's safety and as such, is one location where internet and cell phones will not work.

This is not to say that student's cant have those items, they just won't be able to use those items while on the grounds of Hogwarts or its surrounding community. This includes Diagon Alley, Knockturn Alley, Hogsmeade, Ministry of Magic, Hogwarts Academy, and any other location within the magical community of London.

It is not a punishable offense to have said items however the staff does have the right to confiscate said items if students are found to have said items in class. Students will get their belongings after class is dismissed.

If a student goes into the non-magical community all internet and cell phones will function as they would normally.
